The Sixers are better off without Iverson & Webber

Blogged under Front Page by Nothing but Net on Monday 29 January 2007 at 4:28 pm

The Sixers have won five of their last ten games and sit 8 games out of first place in the division and 7.5 games behind the Nets for the last playoff spot. Not suggesting that the Sixers can make the playoffs, but there’s a lot of time left in this season. The Sixers are playing so much better without the selfish Iverson and Webber around. Andre Miller (13.1 points, 4.6 rebounds and 8.4 assists) is making all the players on the Sixers better as he would rather make a nice pass than score himself. Andre Iguodala is getting ready to explode with getting more looks on offense. He’s had a solid year so far averaging 17.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game, but look for the scoring average to go up in the second half. Kyle Korver is really playing much better this season than he ever has before. He’s averaging 14.4 points and 3.6 rebounds per game. He’s also hitting an amazing 43.3% from three-point range. Look for that to continue as Andre Miller will get the ball to him whenever he’s open. Willie Green has stepped into Iverson’s old shooting guard spot and he’s averaging 11.6 points per game. Look for that to take a tick up in the second half with Miller running the show. Center Samuel Dalembert is playing very well this season as he’s averaging 10.7 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. Rookie Rodney Carney is having a good rookie season averaging 5.9 points per game and that should go up with increased playing time in the second half of the season. Steven Hunter has been elevated to the starting job at power forward in Chris Webber’s old spot. He’s averaging 5.3 points and 3.7 rebounds per game and those should both go up with the added playing time. The defense should improve with Hunter and Dalembert on the floor together because they are both good shot blockers.

The 76ers beat the Hawks 104-89 in Atlanta

The Sixers shot well tonight hitting 54.2% from the floor and that’s why they won the game. Andre Iguodala led the way for the Sixers with 24 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Samuel Dalembert ruled the paint with 19 points, 10 rebounds and 7 blocked shots. Andre Miller did a good job directing the attack with 19 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists.

76ers choke tonight and let the Cavs win 105-97 in Philadelphia

The Sixers looked great in the first half as they rolled to a 60-43 halftime lead over the LeBron James-less Cavaliers. But the Cavs destroyed the Sixers 62-37 in the second half to beat them. Andre Iguodala had a solid basketball game with 22 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists and 3 steals. Andre Miller got a triple-double against his old team with 12 points, 12 rebounds and 13 assists.
